FAQs - booking France flights

  • Are direct flights available to France?

Passengers looking for direct flights to France will find numerous options available. If you want to fly direct from London, you can fly with easyJet from London Luton and London Gatwick (LGW). You can also fly non-stop from London Heathrow with British Airways. Flights on these routes will land at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. You can also fly direct from Birmingham Airport (BHX) with Air France and land at Charles de Gaulle. Regular direct flights are also available with Ryanair from Manchester Airport (MAN).

  • Do I need a visa to travel to France?

UK passengers do not need a visa to enter France. However, you will need to have a valid UK passport before you travel. If you plan to stay in France for more than 90 days, you will also need to apply for a long-stay visa.

  • I want to visit the French Riviera. Where can I fly to?

If you plan to explore the south of France during your trip, you can fly cheaply from the UK to Nice or Marseilles. Flights from London Luton to Nice Cote d’Azur Airport (NCE) with easyJet take around 2h. You can also fly to Nice from Birmingham in around 6h with Brussels Airlines. To fly to Marseilles Provence Airport (MRS), passengers can fly direct from London Stansted (STN) with Ryanair in around 2h. Landing at either Nice or Marseilles will put you just a short drive from the French Riviera.

  • Is public transport available at French airports?

Most airports in France have excellent public transport facilities. If you arrive at a smaller French airport, like Rennes or Brest, taxis are a convenient and affordable option. However, if you land at an airport in a major city like Paris, you may face long waits for taxis. Taking the Paris metro, therefore, will usually be faster and more affordable.

  • What are popular transfer locations on flights to France?

Stopover locations depend on the airline you fly with, as many will transfer at a hub airport. For instance, KLM from Heathrow (LHR) to Paris will normally stop over at Amsterdam Airport (AMS). On the same route, Lufthansa tends to change at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), whereas SWISS will normally use Zurich Airport (ZRH) for its transfer location.

  • Is there internet on board flights from UK to France?

If you need to stay in touch with loved ones, you can look for an airline that provides you with access to the internet. For instance, British Airways and Air France offer internet to passengers, which comes at an extra cost. Ryanair on the other hand does not offer internet as part of its services.

  • Which airports are hubs for airlines that fly to France?

There are several airlines that offer frequent and direct services to France from their hub airports. For instance, Ryanair operates from its hub at Stansted Airport (STN), whilst British Airways has a hub at Heathrow Airport (LHR). Flying from these airports means you are likely to find cheaper flights for your journey.

  • How many bags can you take on board flights to France?

On flights from Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), you will be able to take one item of cabin baggage with Air France or British Airways. However, if you want checked luggage, this will cost extra. If you fly with Ryanair on a flight from Stansted Airport (STN) to France, you will not get any luggage included in the basic ticket cost, just a small bag which must be able to fit under the seat.

  • Are flights likely to be more expensive around Hellfest?

If you are flying to Nantes during Hellfest, which is a popular open air rock festival that takes place each year in June, you should be aware that the flight prices are likely to be more expensive. For cheaper tickets, you should try booking either side of the festival.

  • Are flights likely to be more expensive during Christmas?

As Christmas and New Years are widely celebrated in France, it’s likely that flight prices will be more expensive in the build-up to the celebrations. Unless you are specifically heading to France for the festivities, it’s recommended you book a trip before or afterwards, so you get cheaper fares.

  • How long is the flight to France?

  • Passengers that are flying from London will have a choice of airports to leave from. London Heathrow Airport (LHR) is the biggest airport which offers the most amenities. Georgian Airways check in staff initially denied us, because they thought passengers required transit visas to transfer on connecting flights. This required 70 minutes for them to call multiple people to confirm how transfers worked. They did not apologize once accepting our check in. Onboard, the four hour flight gave stale bread with spam slices as lunch. The only included drinks were still or sparkling water.

I did not get my baggage at my final destination..poor coordination with connecting flights with partner airlines (Saudi airways). Also the food was very mediocre.

Not a good one this time. The absence of internet without any information/notification ahead was really the unacceptable part. Also this new A350-900 has a serious legroom challenge for economy seats. It’s more like a medium-haul flight legroom configuration.

Not great , just ok . I expected better food but it did not deliver . Flight staff was ok . The guy at the drop off bag counter was the only saving grace in this whole trip . He was pleasant, friendly and very helpful . You couldn’t ask for a better assistance from him .

There was 2 hours delay before boarding and 2 hours delay after boarding while waiting in the plane

Very good crew. Food service above average. Seats very small for a 12 hours flight.

They lost my lauggage and I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED IT. NO ONE IS HELPING! PLEASE HELP FIND MY LOST LAUGGAGE

Extremely poor. First - and oddly enough, Air France denied access to the Business Class lounge at CDG to all of us - although we were all flying Business Class. It is amazing that an airline denies lounge access to its passengers flying on business and paying several thousand dollars each ticket. Second, the food on Business Class on absolutely horrible. Air France must have made an effort to prepare bad tasting dishes (not even the ice cream was good). Third, the cabin temperature was too hot and although we complained many times, it never got cooler.

They again did not offer any functioning WiFi in the transatlantic crossing.

The first half from DC to Paris was very good and the staff were very helpful and humble BUT flight from Paris to Mumbai was sad. 1) it was packed. 2) no space on head compartment 3) crews were unresponsive to the calls 4) one crew member literally banged the bottle of water after giving me glass of water. A little water splashed on me and she was unapologetic 5) with so many hours of flight, little leg space should be taken care else don’t fill your airline till brim which affects your crew and they remove anger on us. 6) huge line for washrooms. 7) 2nd half journey was pathetic

My luggage got lost and until today there is no solution to the problem. It's still missing

I am writing to demand an immediate refund and compensation for the absolutely unacceptable experience I endured with VUELING this week. On Monday, my flight was canceled, and despite this, I have yet to receive any refund. I was then taken to a hotel in a terrible location, where no food or even water was provided. The next day, I was rebooked on another flight, for which I had to personally cover an additional €50 in transportation costs—only to have that flight canceled as well. After waiting 10 hours, only 10 of us were offered alternative accommodations, while the rest were left stranded. We were forced to remain in this situation until Thursday without a single explanation or proper assistance. During this entire ordeal, we were only provided with breakfast and dinner, while being charged extra for drinks. This level of treatment is completely unacceptable. I expect an immediate refund for the cancelled flights and full compensation for the inconvenience, additional expenses, and the significant distress caused.

Only food for sale. Did not even offer water. No entertainment

Checking was efficient and quick. Adequate luggage space. Food for purchase only at high prices

Nothing. There was no flight. They cancelled the flight with no replacement about 9 hours before takeoff.

The flight was canceled at the last minute. Alternative flight was booked after 6 hours wait in Malaga airport.

Boarding with some sense and communication. It was a total free-for-all everyone coming all at once, no organisation of row numbers or priority.

Horrible, flight cancelled and had to come back the next day

Terrible. For clarity - this was the Level flight to Boston. Not Vueling. Would urge customers to avoid this airline. Gate agent was singularly unhelpful. He was argumentative, rude and went out of his way to ensure that every penny was collected for the baggage (which we realized given how early we were for flight we could have saved hundreds of dollars if we checked in on app). No onboard entertainment or WiFi. Half of the front section was empty because the seats did not work! Plane was falling apart.

No complimentary snacks, but I think that’s a standard in the USA. There were loud drunk Germans sitting in front of us.

There were a lot (4 I think) of EasyJet flights leaving Agadir, we arrived two and a half ours before our flight. Very slow to get through the booking in, passport control and security!! We had booked in on line but had to Queue with others who had not to drop our bags off!,

We boarded and then sat on the tarmac for an hour….probably not E Jets fault. But the gentleman that checked us in and took our luggage was exceptionally friendly and calming for early morning/ confused passengers. As always, it’s the people that make or break an experience, right?

I was hesitant to book with a low cost airline due to previous experience but Easy Jet surpassed my expectations. I would definitely book a flight with them again! Seemless booking, upfront about baggage fees, professional, and helpful staff.

Kayak sent several notifications that the flight was late. This contradicted the information on the airport boards. This was extremely confusing and we very nearly missed the flight purely because we double checked with the info desk when the flight stays said’closed’. Kayak notifications are therefore unreliable and pointlesa

Usual issues with flight delay. Perennial problem of travel by plane.

i didnt go this was a hacker booked this flight on my debit card !

Delayed almost 2 hours sitting on plane. No updates at all from flight deck and virtually no updates from cabin crew

Long delay resulted in my being unable to catch a train home and resulted in an additional £76 cost for an Uber

I was charged at the gate for bags I had already paid for. There was no other option. I am trying diligently thought easyJet website but making no progress HELP!

Be sure to check bags for 23 kg,.(50 lbs) Coming from US I chose the wrong size luggage weight when I checked in on my phone, and had to pay more when I dropped it off

There plane had a technical pricken so we had to disembark, but the replacement aircraft was provided within one hour so there was not much delay.

Miserable staff did not want to be there. Very poor atmosphere boarding. Then just basic flight.

People at the gate were the worst I ever met from Ryanair

We were diverted to warsaw and there was zero information. We were just forced to disembark and off we go good luck the reat of the way. We all had to go our ways to find a way home!!!! Horrible horrible and it cost us alot of money to get a hotel and trains 4:30 pm next day.

Long delay was made worse by lack of information and long time in queue waiting for the plane to arrive

Blood contaminated tissue was stuffed to the back of the seat in front of us.

Great flight, departed only 10 mins behind schedule off the aircraft and through security in less than 15 minutes. Love flying from Cardiff so easy a quick from entrance to duty free in less than 10 minutes 😀

My flight was delayed 1 hour. My Mood was not great

Lord knows why they had us start boarding when the plane wasn't even there, staff weren't welcoming and the couple next to me travelling with a young child had a nightmare with the baby changing facilities.

This time round it was very good, flight delayed by 30mins but capitan put his toe to the floor and made some time up!!

The seat was very uncomfortable. It helped to use the foot rest. Could not sleep because of the seat.

The seats are incredibly uncomfortable. My luggage didn't make it on the flight from London to Nashville.

The plane itself is old and way overcrowded. The crew do a great job of trying to mitigate. It is just uncomfortable for over 8 hours, bearable, but barely. Boarding, and the baggage game, is ludicrous. Why charge extra to check bags when there is not enough room for everyone to "carry-on" and checking is needed? I do not think these issues would be different with other airlines, I believe it is the attitude that squeezes every penny out of each traveler.

Expected a lot better service paying for a business class seat. Seemed to be short on staff and did not get the service I expected.

Nice experience. Baggage arrival in Mumbai wasn't that quick and needs improvement.

I flew Club World and was SHOCKED at how totally absent the crew were for the duration of the flight. So much so that we received no drink service other than the post-departure cocktail and that was it. Wasn't even offered tea/coffee and the in-flight attention was so bad that literally minutes before landing the one crew member for our row was scrambling to pick up left-behind water bottles, glassware, trash. And the rest of the crew had already stowed all carts, he was cramming the trash into the lavatory trash can and was stashing the glassware frantically in the galley as we were on final approach. He was so scrambled he left two overhead lockers wide open (that he'd opened) for landing. Unbelievable!

Paid for first class and was surprised that the seats were the same in economy except no one was in the middle seat. I expected an actual first class seat.

The flight was several times changed. That was inconvenient, to sah the least.

They lost my special meal request and tried to tell me I didn't request it. I had the proof. Then they tried to get me to eat food I can't eat. No apologies

British airways keeps canceling our flights. I won’t be booking any future flights with them
