FAQs - booking Cape Verde flights

  • Are there non-stop flights to Cape Verde?

You can take non-stop flights to Cape Verde from Gatwick Airport (LGW) in London, with there being direct routes to both Espargos Airport (SID) and Rabil Airport (BVC). You can also fly to San Pedro Airport (VXE) and Praia Nelson Mandela Airport (RAI), but these flights will require a stopover along the way. This transfer is often at Lisbon Airport (LIS).

  • Can I reduce my carbon emissions when flying?

You can reduce your impact on the environment when you fly by choosing an airline that emits less carbon dioxide during the flight. For instance, if you are flying from London to Espargos Airport (SID), then you could fly with TAP AIR Portugal, which operates this route producing 26% less CO2 than the industry standard. Rather than emitting 965 kg CO2 per passenger, it emits 714 kg CO2 per passenger.

  • Which UK airports have a fast-track service?

If you are flying from a UK airport to Cape Verde, you can skip the queues ahead of your flight. For instance, you can use this service at all London airports with the exception of London City Airport (LCY) which doesn't have a fast-track option. This tends to cost £5 at all airports apart from at Heathrow Airport where it is about £12.50.

  • I’m flying to Cape Verde to visit the Morro Negro lighthouse, where should I fly to?

To fly to this historical landmark, you should look for flights to Rabil Airport (BVC). From here you can easily drive to the lighthouse in approximately 50min. If you were to fly to another airport in Cape Verde, you would have to get a ferry to get to the lighthouse, which would make your journey a lot longer.

  • Where can I find the car hire desks at Praia Nelson Mandela Airport?

Most car hire companies at Praia Nelson Mandela Airport have their offices conveniently located near the Baggage Claim area. You can book online with KAYAK, so that after you've collected your bags, all you have to do is head to the desk and present your paperwork. Vehicles are generally located on-site at the car park, which is within walking distance of the terminal.

  • Are there taxis available at Praia Nelson Mandela Airport?

You will usually find plenty of taxis available at the airport, and can expect to pay around CVE 1000 (about GBP 7.80) to get from the airport to the city centre. This is generally the standard fare, regardless of where in the city you’re heading. There may also be an additional charge for luggage.

  • Are there buses at Praia Nelson Mandela Airport?

Unfortunately, there is no official public transport service offering buses from the airport to Praia. However, there are sometimes informal transport services, similar to buses, which carry larger groups of people. These are usually less expensive than taxis, with a minimum fare of roughly CVE 100 (approximately GBP 0.78). Your hotel may also offer a complimentary shuttle.

  • Which airport should I fly to if I want to visit Maio?

Maio doesn't have an international airport, so if you're flying from the UK, you'll need to arrive at Praia Nelson Mandela Airport. From here, you can take a connecting domestic flight to Maio Airport (MMO), which takes around 20 minutes. These flights are usually operated by Bestfly Cabo Verde. Alternatively, you can take a ferry between Praia and Maio which takes roughly 2 h 30 min.

The facilities at PDL are absolutely appalling during a 4.5-hour connection. Passengers from multiple flights were crammed into a small area with insufficient seating and only a snack bar. The only bathroom was unisex, with one stall for men and another for women side by side. This is for hundreds of passengers. The connecting aircraft from PDL to JFK was downgraded/switched out to an Economy Class-only configuration without explanation, even though the aircraft with Comfort Class we arrived from FNC on remained at the stand. Those who paid for Comfort Class could not enjoy the better seating or catering. Food and drink aboard was sub-par. I would qualify it as one of our worst travel experiences in years.

The crew was great. The only problem is that electrical outlets were not working in what seems to be a half of the rows on the plane. Considering that passengers are asked not to use power banks, this leaves us out in the blue without any entertainment option.

Reasonably comfortable. We were about an half an hour late. But no personal impact. Seats upfront have a good amount of recline, but do not lay down flat. Food and drink can be improved. There are no soft drinks available on the flights. Water, juices, and wines are provisioned.

Flight on time. Staff pleasant and responsive. Food could be much better. Snack before landing was a few dry crackers and a drink. Nothing else. There was a very lumited selection of beverages available on a 7 hour flight. No soft drinks, even in the front cabin.

Delayed departure of one hour and half, inflight entertainment NOT functioning. Plane did not crash and I arrived alive, so I guess it was a good flight.

This was a long flight - 6 hours - and nothing is truly comfortable for that long... but the flight crew was friendly and attentive. The airport in the Azores is small but we weren't there long enough to explore any amenities.

There is one flight a day and it was canceled with no explanation

Flight was ok. Food on way there great a pork dish way back tuna and pasta was not good. Flight attendants were great. Wish they had more soda options like ginger ale seltzer water. Good experience overall. Worst part of trip was car rental Klass company car broke down we were on side of road late night 4 hours awful awful experience all they wanted was 500 euros for help to come absolutely horrible experience we were scared side of highway they offered zero help!

Coming from USA it was nice to be treated nice for a change. Even though our flight was pretty short we were served breakfast. On time flight with very caring staff. Please teach American carriers how to treat people.

More space between seats and in bathroom. I don’t think there was any entertainment offered. If there was, I wasn’t aware.

Was a cheap flight and it got me to Portugal on time. For economy there was ample leg room and the flight attendants were pleasant and helpful.

Flight was packed. This was a very uncomfortable experience. Boarding process could be explained better. Despite recommending a window seat when travelling with a pet in the cabin, the seat in front of me had less space than the center and aisle seats. For Premium Economy, the seats were crammed with minimal legroom. I hate to think what Regular Economy was like. The cabin crew missed me at first when handing out meals. When my meal eventually came, there were no utensils.

TAP boarding gate agents singled out Group A line to gate check all carry on bags …. Supposedly because of lack on bin space. BUT ALL OTHERS WERE PERMITTED WITH CARRY ON BAGS. Additionally so many passengers entering the plane after us were permitted carry on bags. And when the plane was fully loaded, there was a number of open spaces in the overhead bins. I WILL SEARCH OTHER OPTIONS BEFORE FLYING TAP AGAIN

Baggage check in was very slow. No sign that the check in was TAP until the station opened. Understaffed and overworked team.

Great pilot, textbook landing in madeira. Everything else, from booking to checkin, plane quality, seat amenities, crew engagement, and overall experience were significantly below standard. I WOULD NOT FLY TAP IF THERE IS ANY OTHER OPTION.

Worst: long walk to baggage claim Best: left on time

When I tried to enter my identity details, your app told me information was missing but did not highlight the missing data. This was frustrating. Also, there was an unexplained delay of about 2 hours in taking off. This was also frustrating. Otherwise the experience was good.

Correct meal and overall flight went well. 204€ for an extra luggage is simply exaggerated

First, I was moved from my scheduled flight at 10:45 to 6:30. Bad form as I had a scheduled lesson in the morning that I couldn't get a refund for. Second, we were bused out to the plane and bused back to the terminal and sat and sat all with NO explanation until the end of the long wait. Third, once we boarded the plane, we again sat for at least an hour WITH NO EXPLANATORY ANNOUNCEMENT. Plane left and arrived 2 hours late. I missed a train connection adding hours to my trip home. Lastly, it's time the airport is upgraded or TAP gets priority for walk-on gates. As a 74 year old, carrying my carry on luggage up and down stairs between the terminal and the plane is a pain. Might be the last time I fly TAP.

Boarding the plane from 2 entries at the the same time front and back was ridiculous. I boarded from the back for row 7 and others boarded from the front for row 15, for example. We met mid-plane and had to squeeze past each other. Ridiculous

We were charged a ridiculous amount for a name spelling error on ticket which I would’ve corrected if I received pre-check info more than 1/2hr before flight. Then we were told at ticket counter that our bags were fine for boarding but then we’re charged another ridiculous amount to take in our luggage despite being told differently. Flight itself was great. Charges were unfair.

Apart from an email about re configuring passenger seating less than 24hrs before flying it was all good.

There were a lot (4 I think) of EasyJet flights leaving Agadir, we arrived two and a half ours before our flight. Very slow to get through the booking in, passport control and security!! We had booked in on line but had to Queue with others who had not to drop our bags off!,

We boarded and then sat on the tarmac for an hour….probably not E Jets fault. But the gentleman that checked us in and took our luggage was exceptionally friendly and calming for early morning/ confused passengers. As always, it’s the people that make or break an experience, right?

I was hesitant to book with a low cost airline due to previous experience but Easy Jet surpassed my expectations. I would definitely book a flight with them again! Seemless booking, upfront about baggage fees, professional, and helpful staff.

Kayak sent several notifications that the flight was late. This contradicted the information on the airport boards. This was extremely confusing and we very nearly missed the flight purely because we double checked with the info desk when the flight stays said’closed’. Kayak notifications are therefore unreliable and pointlesa

Usual issues with flight delay. Perennial problem of travel by plane.

i didnt go this was a hacker booked this flight on my debit card !

Delayed almost 2 hours sitting on plane. No updates at all from flight deck and virtually no updates from cabin crew

Long delay resulted in my being unable to catch a train home and resulted in an additional £76 cost for an Uber

The 737-8 is too small for the length of flight especially if there are any delays

The flight was delayed over 2 hours, we should off left the plane2 late passengers as it’s not fair on everyone who’s followed the rules.

Dreamliner. Yes great if maintained. I didn't see anyones screen work consistently during either of our flights. Worse was their ability to not only dump you out of premium but separate couples and seat someone's carer at the opposite end of the aircraft. This poor gentleman had no hand so his partner who assists him, being seated at the other end of the aircraft, well that really showed us all what Tui think :( It was fairly dire all in all, they advertise all the perks of the dreamliner only in reality you don't have the features and they change the windows and colours to suit their constant sales pitches. Ironically they were so low on stock for the return flight that all their sales pitches were a waste of time! Their contract only favours them and 'operational changes' well they cover every excuse and Tui use it. Surprisingly we haven't reinstalled the Tui app or booked with them since. It's a shame as I rated them highly during the pandemic.

One flight attendant not wearing a mask over nose, 50% of passengers not either, and no effort to correct. Boarding was very late with no information - lots of standing around waiting.

Worst flight experience of my life. It was cancelled and they left us in the airport for 7 hours having no idea what to do.

Had the worst service I have experienced in 45 years of flying internationally (over 100 flights). This was an 8-hour flight and the crew was completely non-responsive to any and all requests for assistance from the 200+ passengers. My wife and I each pressed the button for assistance at least 4 separate times and no crew member ever responded. Looking down the aisle, at any given time at least a dozen passengers request-for-assistance lights were on and no crew member ever assisted any of them either. Notably, it was a very smooth flight with no turbulence, so there was no reason crew members could not provide assistance. Other than two meals - one at the beginning and one at the very end, the crew did not serve water or other drinks at all. We had to get up and walk to the end of the plane to get water ourselves. The only snacks available were saltine crackers. Crew also did not collect trash except immediately after each meal. Plane was a mess and everyone was coughing at the end due to lack of water. We found the crew hanging out in the front of the plane talking to each other and laughing amongst themselves without a care in the world about the 200 passengers. One was just enjoying a book. Don’t ever fly Royal Air Maroc if you can avoid it.

There was a technical problem with the aircraft after we boarded and we had to leave the plane and wait for two hours where we couldn’t talk to anyone. I had a connection in Toronto to Vancouver I obviously missed it. Arriving to Vancouver the flight was canceled and I wasn’t offered any another flights. I had to book one on my own charges to get back home. Also at Casablanca check in. They said our luggage will go to final destination and they did not!

Seats were very uncomfortable (tight and hard). Flight was delayed due to technical problems. Baggage took an hour to arrive to the carousel.

Not good airline doesn't understand or recognize business class customers

I love how the airline gave accommodation as a result of my nine hour layover. The service at the hotel was great.

It will be my last choice to fly this airline It was the first time to fly with them Everything extremely bad Nothing good about them Very filthy Bad service Bad food quality Bad boarding Very bad lounge. Actually it doesn’t meet the definition of lounge

Plane is dirty Food quality poor Service was not good Lounge extremely bad

There were a lot of hidden fees I paid extra for my luggage at JFK which was my leaving point and I also had to pay another extra at the Casablanca’s airport for my carry on and my backpack which is insane, when i refused to pay they threatened to call airport’s security on me. And they actually lost my luggage once I got to my destination. I seriously will not fly with this company anymore from now on and I advise you to do the same

Check in process is terrible, only one counter opens to serve over hundred passengers, agents are incompetent and took too long to get passengers boarding passes. Supervisor is no help neither. On board entertainment 90% monitors were defective.
