Flights from England to Europe: the best tips from KAYAK users

Insights shared by verified travellers who flew the route from England to Europe
ZakFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGALLHR-LISMar 2025
Don't bother with business if you are flying out of LHR before 06:30 as the lounges and fast track security only open at 06:00 so you will not have time to use them. For short haul European flights this is most of the benefit of going business class. Hand luggage only is better with a large rucksack (30-40L) instead of a case with wheels is possible as gate agents will usually check cases with wheels on full flights and your rucksack is less likely to be gate checked.

ontime and super quick boarding and disembarking. I made it in 6 min from airplane through passport control to the train platformin Cologne. Amazingly quick airport.

I had another flight out of Copenhagen and the bags wouldn’t transfer so we had to collect our bags on the other side and check in for our next flight.
SandorFlew with British AirwaysLHR-ATHMar 2025
Unless there’s very strong reason to travel on business here you can bypass Athens altogether and find much better places on Greek islands or even in Spain or Italy.
MarkFlew with British AirwaysLGW-ACEDec 2024
I would definitely recommend priority boarding as we’re didn’t book this and were the last group to board and had to hunt for overhead cabin bag space.

Pack snacks. Expensive restaurants and no in flight food unless ordered.
ForrestFlew with TAP AIR PORTUGALLGW-OPODec 2024
Book a morning flight so if it's cancelled you have time to adjust. All the airlines operating between the two are budget airlines so don't expect great service.

Be prepared for a delayed and queues when landing. May also be long queues for hire cars

Domestic flights only need a valid photo id like drivers license (I carried my passport anyway but wish I'd just left it in the safety of home).

Move quickly to your connecting flight gate. Crowded, busy airport and likely another security check.
NeelamFlew with British AirwaysLHR-CDGSept 2024
Maybe try Air France as BA is always delayed
Verified travelerFlew with British AirwaysLHR-INVSept 2024
I think the constant stress of gates and communication may be an area for improvement. Upon landing at Heathrowthere wasn’t a gate assigned until twenty minutes before departure. That may be Heathrow’s responsibility. It just created some stress about connecting.
SimonFlew with British AirwaysLHR-PUYSept 2024
Usually the earlier BA flight is better the later Easyjet one is often late and if it runs too far behind it becomes 4hours late as they have to find a new crew
RebeccaFlew with RyanairLBA-PMISept 2024
Prepare yourself! The queue for security was ridiculous, no space to sit once you were through and definitely no chance of an alcoholic drink before departure

Not flown from London yet has I missed flight due to bad service on thereside. They put me in a hotel for the night and got me a flight for the next day as I was there on time and not at fault. The staff seemed faster at Manchester though and seem to have a better plan in place to help sort people's problems and concerns out.
GaryFlew with British AirwaysLHR-EDIAug 2024
The overhead luggage bins are very small so they required us to check our hand carry luggage. I had to take my rechargable batteries out of my bag and put them in my rucksack. It would be a good idea to pack you hand carry luggage assuming you might need to check it in at the gate.
BogdanFlew with British AirwaysLHR-NCEJul 2024
It's very interesting and strange but I never had any major problems with Wizz Air they usually on time even when the plane was broken they found the replacement and delay was only 45 minutes, but when flying with British Airways always all different sort of troubles anything you can imagine will be here
JonFlew with IcelandairLGW-KEFJun 2024
Understanding the transit system. Something we had not done. So we took a cab that sat in a lot of traffic and cost us a lot of time and money when we could have taken the tube for very little cost and half time time

Share British air business classes more expensive than Lufthansa. There’s a better value. The only negative is having to connect and Heathrow.

We frequently use Ryanair and Jet2 and have so far found them both very reliable and on time. Ryanair is cheaper and service is generally similar to Jet2, so good option for more frequent travel. However, seats are more comfortable on Jet2.

MikeFlew with easyJetBRS-ALCDec 2023
Normally reasonable airport just a lack of communication
NeelamFlew with British AirwaysLHR-SOFDec 2023
British Airways and Bulgaria Air fly direct to Sofia from Heathrow. BA is better as hand baggage allowance is 23 kg. The downside is they give you no refreshments. Just a tiny bottle of water and a ridiculously small piece of snack with maybe 5 bites of nothing! They do however sell food onboard which is pretty overpriced and tastes lame so better to buy food before you board.
Verified travelerFlew with British AirwaysLHR-BRUJan 2024
Be prepared. BA didn't provide a gate until 45 minutes pre-boarding, with only a 15-20 minute window for passengers to "board" a bus, to take them to their plane.

Very quick trip from Southampton to Edinburgh Arrival a long way from baggage and up 3flights of stairs no lifts or escalators

The flight was excellent and we appreciate that they ran the flight even though only 9 of us were on board!

Excellent round trip from London Gatwick to Newquay Cornwall! Personable staff and crew, bags made it, flights on time. For me it was 5 stars.

For a small aircraft the choice of food and drinks was excellent compared to other ATR 72 operators. Checked in baggage as standard means easy boarding and disembarking for all.

I shall never book a budget airline flight ever again. Saturday morning flight to Belfast cancelled, rescheduled for following day, arriving 25 minutes before scheduled departure flight. I made the mistake of buying a non-flexible, non-refundable ticket options were so much more expensive. Alternative options offered by KAYAK did not come close in any way to my original booking; My first and last attempt to book a flight through Kayak.

Every flight on this airline is delayed, generally upto 2 hours for an internal flight. Very poor and absolute logistical disaster.

I appreciate that KLM was proactive in informing me of the 2 hour delay which enabled me to replan my travel. It was a bit stressful not knowing whether my connection from Montreal to Ottawa was happening. But the ground and air crew did a good job at comforting and assuring me.

Cabin crew professional, polite and friendly, boarding was seemless, but come on KLM surely you can do better than a pack of cheesy biscuits as an inflight snack

Legroom not all it could be, especially when the seat in front is reclined. Otherwise it was good, food and beverage were nice.

Transfer at Amsterdam airport is very convenient and the airport is easy to navigate. Boarding was also quick and easy. Cabin crew were excellent and the meals were good, although lacking in options.

Overall very positive. Boarding was quick and organized. Cabin was clean and seats were reasonably comfortable. Cabin crew was excellent and the meals provided were also of good quality

This fight left ahead of time which meant it arrived early which was great. Staff were very professional, but as with all these Short hop Flights the food was a disappointing snack There was no entertainment on this flight, but I did not expect any

They only had vegetarian food left on the flight which I wasn’t happy about. I didn’t get any food to eat at all.

Overall very poor. Flight was disorganised, staff were rude and this is my second experience with KLM that I've had baggage go missing. It feels like, if you are an economy customer, KLM staff do not show you any care. I shall never fly with KLM again. Worst airline in Europe

Great boarding, great short flight but no entertainment whatsoever and no wifi. Prepare to disembark by a staircase.

Great boarding, great short flight but no entertainment whatsoever. It was supposed to have wifi but that did not work.

We were charged a ridiculous amount for a name spelling error on ticket which I would’ve corrected if I received pre-check info more than 1/2hr before flight. Then we were told at ticket counter that our bags were fine for boarding but then we’re charged another ridiculous amount to take in our luggage despite being told differently. Flight itself was great. Charges were unfair.

Apart from an email about re configuring passenger seating less than 24hrs before flying it was all good.

There were a lot (4 I think) of EasyJet flights leaving Agadir, we arrived two and a half ours before our flight. Very slow to get through the booking in, passport control and security!! We had booked in on line but had to Queue with others who had not to drop our bags off!,

We boarded and then sat on the tarmac for an hour….probably not E Jets fault. But the gentleman that checked us in and took our luggage was exceptionally friendly and calming for early morning/ confused passengers. As always, it’s the people that make or break an experience, right?

I was hesitant to book with a low cost airline due to previous experience but Easy Jet surpassed my expectations. I would definitely book a flight with them again! Seemless booking, upfront about baggage fees, professional, and helpful staff.

Kayak sent several notifications that the flight was late. This contradicted the information on the airport boards. This was extremely confusing and we very nearly missed the flight purely because we double checked with the info desk when the flight stays said’closed’. Kayak notifications are therefore unreliable and pointlesa

Usual issues with flight delay. Perennial problem of travel by plane.

i didnt go this was a hacker booked this flight on my debit card !

Delayed almost 2 hours sitting on plane. No updates at all from flight deck and virtually no updates from cabin crew

Long delay resulted in my being unable to catch a train home and resulted in an additional £76 cost for an Uber

LCY airport is an amazing airport and I love the flight from LCY to FRA with BA. Efficient, easy, comfortable and great luggage allownace with BA. I iused to fly predominantley LH, but the service and price - benefit ratio of Lufthansa has deteriorated a lot over the last 5 years. Whereas BA keeps an excellent service level with friendly staff.

Flight Attendant Karen Lynn was an absolute delight. She assisted in every portion of the services provided throughout the flight, aided with any and all concerns expressed by passengers, and even helped comfort an upset child who was one of five of a traveling family. This quality of service is what keeps me coming back to American. Thank you!

The airplane was old. Some things didn’t work out of middle seat was broken. The rest was OK.

The worst, flight cancelled because the aircraft was not full. Heathrow ground crew totally not helpful and arrogant. Lady proposed us flight with 40min layover instead of direct and said it is our problem of course she was unable to do anything as everything was beyond her control she claimed. after calling on hotline another flight was booked. Flight was cancelled last second so we could not take direct from Zurich but we had to stay overnight in London.

Very quick boarding. I was surprised we only got a small water and small thing of cookies, everything else was for purchase. No entertainment. Crew was excellent though.

Flight delayed in terms of boarding and Kayak was great in updating but the team on the groping at British Airways were really poor

A basic tea/ coffee and a snack could be provided especially for long distance flyers.

The information in the airport, and the app was different. Be aware. Different terminals in Stuttgart, so we had to walk a lot. It's a small airport so it wasn't a big deal, but it was ludicrous to see the error in the app.

Flight was delayed and there was boarding pass and flight information errors resulting in confusion and stress

Food was terrible , crew were excellent , IFE was dire . Overall comfortable seat and cabin. Nothing special .
