FAQs - booking Wales flights

  • I’m flexible with my departure city. Which English airport offers the most direct flights to Wales?

If you are looking for a direct flight to Wales from England, Newcastle International Airport (NCL) is the best option. If you’d prefer an airport with more flight options and good public transportation links, select flights to Wales from London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted or Luton, or from Manchester Airport (MAN) or Birmingham Airport (BHX). Keep in mind that flying out of these airports requires at least one stopover.

  • I’m booking a flight to Wales from London. Which airport should I depart from?

Regardless of which London airport you’re flying out of, a flight to Wales will usually involve a stopover in Edinburgh or Glasgow. Occasionally, some flights to Wales might also have a stopover in Belfast City Airport. If you prefer less busy airports when flying, you might like to choose a flight that departs from London City (LCY) or London Southend Airport (SEN) and has a stopover in Glasgow.

  • I’m travelling to Swansea. Which airport should I choose?

Although Swansea does have an airport, it’s not served by commercial flights. The closest airport in Wales to be served by commercial flights is Cardiff Airport (40 mi). Alternatively, if you're looking for a nearby airport with more options when it comes to airlines and flights, you can search for flights that land in the English city of Bristol, and drive (2h 10min) or take public transportation (2h 30min) from the airport to Swansea.

  • Which airport in Scotland is the best to book a direct flight to Wales from?

If you value direct flights, you can choose between Edinburgh Airport and Glasgow International Airport. Of the two, Glasgow is the least busy airport, but Edinburgh is the most centrally located. Aberdeen Airport (ABZ) can be considered as a third alternative, but it’s not served by direct flights to Wales, which means you’d have to factor in a stopover in one of the other Scottish airports or elsewhere in the United Kingdom.

  • How long is the flight to Wales?

An average direct flight from the United Kingdom to Wales takes 3h 35m, covering a distance of 189 miles. The most popular route is London - Manchester with an average flight time of 1h 00m.

  • Which airlines fly to Wales?

easyJet, AccesRail & British Airways fly the most frequently from the United Kingdom to Wales.

  • What are the most popular destinations in Wales?

Based on KAYAK flight searches, the most popular destination is Manchester (61% of total searches to Wales). The next most popular destinations are Bristol (21%) and Cardiff (18%).Searches for flights to Holyhead (0.0%) are also popular.

  • How does KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy?

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Wales

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Wales flight deals.
  • There is a smaller airport in Wales, Anglesey Airport (VLY), which is only served by low-cost airline Flybe. • When searching for flights to Wales, keep in mind that the country is served only by one main airport: Cardiff Airport (CWL).
  • Passengers departing from Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Newcastle can book regular direct flights to Wales with Flybe.
  • If you’re looking for a direct flight to Wales from Belfast City Airport (BHD), Flybe operates daily direct flights to Cardiff Airport. If you’d prefer to fly from Belfast International Airport (BFS), keep in mind that you’ll need to factor in at least one stopover.
  • Passengers travelling from elsewhere in the United Kingdom have to account for at least one stopover, usually in Edinburgh Airport (EDI) or Glasgow International Airport (GLA).

The flight crew was exceptionally good. Personal needs were well met. The food choices were very nice.

Excellent. Planes are a little older and could get some refurbishment, but besides that everything was excellent.

I cancelled the flights in good time but could only get a partial refund. I was not warned of this.

Not good. Flight was purchased for my father who needed medical assistance to board and transfer due to a heart condition. No one at Hong Kong from Cathay was there to assist and he barely made the connection. When I talked to him he could barely breath and was not sure he was going to make it. Really poor service even though the ticket stated he needed a wheelchair assistance.

Crew experience was more transnational, seats were so close together (LtoR and FtoB) that it was difficult to enjoy much of anything. When the person in front leaned back, there is no space for me. Sadly it was a flight to be endured not experienced.

Very poor check-in experience, and flight meal service was very disappointing with no drinks service or hot meal.

Not impressed with check in desk staff at Vancouver airport. Not a professional mind service and not cared or tried to help. Don’t think I would fly with them again

Flight crew was especially thoughtful and attentive, made sure our seats were comfortable so we could rest on the long flight

Very comfortable flights. Not so many new releases in terms of films.

The aircraft was slightly newer but the food was very bad. Bland and uninteresting. Nothing special at all.

On the flight back the seats where very uncomfortable, they where so bad that my back started to hurt after the first 2 hours. I can sit in a wooden chair for 2 hours. But these where just horrible, it just shows how cheap the airline has become. And the cabin was heated all those people in a heated cabin during a night flight. It was clear the climate control was not working. To top that off you are not even offered a glass of water, these people are animals.

We purchased a Go First Pass for 10 Euros each so we could board first, but everyone was able to board at the same time so we wasted 20 Euros. The flight left ab out 15 minutes late and was not allowed to land at Healthrow so we had to circle Heathrow for about 45 minutes. This caused us to almost miss our flight from Heathrow to Atlanta.

Severely delayed with no notice. Could have arrived at the airport hours later had we been informed of the delay

Once the boarding sign went on and all passengers gathered in line, we were left waiting standing up for almost an hour because there was a delay.

It would be nice to have vegan options for meals. The entertainment was not working on the the way to Austria. It was only available near the end of flight to Canada. The service was excellent.

Flight was delayed by approx 1 hour. The boarding process and the flight itself were very good, slightly tight squeeze for my legs but overall happy.

The business class layout on this plane is tightly packed and atrocious with no sense of privacy.

Flight was meant to leave at 8:30pm but there was a 2 hour delay 😞

Airmalta does not include meals in their flights and neither offers entertainment.

Pros: "The crew was amazing and took measures to make the flight Covid safe"
Cons: "The food was not the best and Twistees weren't available. Also the seats felt narrow"

The on board air steward really made the journey. He was very entertaining

I was disappointed there was a 40 minute delay to flight

Well Is extra charge for everything and other companies include that and the price.

The trip itself was good. I have given only good as rating, because my first flight has been cancelled by a different airline and that caused disruption in my trip. I spent over ten hours in Luton airport and that caused me high tiredness, sickness, because of the very early initial trip. easyJet staff has been professional and friendly.

Not great! Rude staff in London and the worse baggage reclaim I’ve ever seen. Great staff in flight but doubt I’ll fly with them again

You booked my 7 year old son to sit on his own without his mum and dad in s separate row between two unfriendly adult strangers. The plane was disgusting and dirty, aisles and everywhere sticky. The lounge waiting area was filthy carpet and had insufficient seats so we had to sit on it to wait for 35 minutes and my 7 year old sone played on this filthy lounge carpet. The outside of the plane appeared clean. The pilot was helpful with the route and what to expect weather etc.

Comfort isn’t a word one uses on economy airlines! Boarding was okay, delayed but okay, the flight was good, quick and time was made up.

The seat leg room seemed much tighter on the way home My cheese toasty wasn’t that hot - didn’t realise till half eaten

With stairs on a rainy tarmac, EasyJet flights are ok for younger travelers with backpack only. Seniors with mobility issues find it challenging 😰. However, the crew and disability assistance folks at both ends eased that discomfort as much as possible for their various roles. Kudos to airport and EasyJet employees for their kind service.

The flight boarded a little late but made up the time in flight - much appreciated. The staff were efficient and fairly friendly One of the toilets wasn’t working - having only one functioning toilet for a flight of hundreds isn’t really acceptable. I still find it amazing that the budget airlines can’t even offer free tap water to passengers.

Cardiff is a great airport but they pen you in at a gate way too small for passenger numbers. Called to the gate too soon and air conditioning was not in operation despite the heat. Cardiff should do better as a small relatively quiet regional airport.

Good, everything went straight forward and on time, I am satisfied

Perfect timing, perfect departure, lovely crew on the ground and in the air.

Good flight. Take off a little late but make up the time

Everything’s went straight forward, no issues, good service and friendly crew

Left on time and arrived on time both ways, thank you

The flight was 45 mins delayed but the crew provided water and necessities like tissues

Cheap flights as you expect with Ryanair. I would take cheaper flights over entertainment and comfort for short haul travel. Main issue is usually delays at airports. In this case we landed roughly 2hr30 later than planned due to earlier delays with the plane. Not the worst I imagine

We each paid for 10kg checked in luggage. Flying out there were no issues sharing one case (20kg). Not so coming back. Additional £48 charge and unable to provide an explanation of why it was ok on one journey but not the other, or indeed what material difference it makes between 2x10kg cases vs 1x20kg case. Scam, and appalling from Ryanair.

Easy process and good flight experience The food good be better

The sad case is that BA is often late. I missed my connection outbound and then was rebooked in another biz class seat some 10 hours later. I opted to change to economy (no compensation refunded of course) that was only 5 hours later. On the return journey, once again changing planes was very challenging. This time we landed only a little bit late, but deplaning took a long time so the connection was very much in doubt. Some serious running and sweat later, I managed to make the connection but my luggage did not. No messages about the missing luggage, so I had to wait until the entire bag return process was over before seeking out an agent. There was only one and well over 50 passengers waiting to speaking with her. She was quite pleasant, but it took 1 hour and 45 minutes from touchdown to leaving the airport.

First time flying with BA and I will do it again. Staff at airport and on board were very nice and helpful

BA charged me 70 euros for one bag on my return after having recognized my frequent flier status and charging me nothing for the same bag on the outbound. Their employees are not well trained and rules are inconsistently applied.

I couldn’t select my seat until I checked in at the airport. Extremely difficult to talk to a customer service representative. Also, the gate announcement doesn’t appear until less than an hour before boarding.

They over sold the flight and I was not able to board. Had to buy two tickets so I would not miss my connection.

Wonderful service and very comfy in the bulkhead in Economy Plus! Delicious food.

On the flight from Venice to London even it’s short, 2 hours 20 minutes and mostly people are on vacation, it’s ridiculous to change money for the cup of tea or coffee. Also it’s to much to charge 80$ for 1 piece of luggage

Flying economy is like being packed into a sardine can.

The BA team at Sky Harbor is deplorable, full of unnecessary attitude and poor communication. It seems like every member of the team was looking at another to solve the problem, instead of taking agency to do so themselves. I saw no less than 6 altercations with the same gate agent where he threatened to revoke the passengers boarding pass for asking a wildly reasonable question, something as simple as where the cue to board was. I’ve complained to BA before but it seems this isn’t an issue for them, which is very disappointing

Boarding poor in London,ok in Chicago. Don’t like Heatrow/terminal5
