FAQs - booking Spain flights

  • What facilities do London Airports have?

All London airports offer great facilities and amenities, although some are slightly better equipped than others. At Heathrow and Stansted, for instance, you have access to fast-track service and airport lounges, whereas London City Airport doesn’t offer these conveniences.

  • I’m flying from London to go skiing in the Sierra Nevada. Where should I fly to?

The Sierra Nevada Mountains have some popular ski resorts for thrill-seekers looking to test out the slopes. The best airport to fly to for access to the pistes is Granada Airport (GRX), located at the foot of the mountain range. Most flights from London to Granada require a change at Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) along the way, but if you want a direct flight, you can fly to Malaga Airport (AGP) and complete your journey in a hire car.

  • Can I reduce my carbon emission by taking specific flights?

When flying from London to a Spanish Airport, such as Madrid Airport (MAD), you can choose your flight based on the least carbon dioxide emissions. British Airways, for instance, emits around 76% less CO2 than flights operated by other airlines. This equates to an average of 169kg of CO2 per passenger compared to the industry standard of 710kg of CO2 for this route.

  • Is there a time of the year when plane tickets are more expensive?

During the UK school holidays, the demand for flights to Spain tends to be much higher, generally rendering tickets more expensive. To avoid higher airfares, it is recommended that you book your trip to Spain during term-time if you can.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from London to Spain?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from London to Spain.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from London to Spain?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight to Spain from London is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from London to Spain?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional return ticket. You could then fly to Spain with an airline and back to London with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from London to Spain?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying to Spain from London up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Top tips for finding a cheap flight from London to Spain

  • Morning departure is around 7% more expensive than an evening flight, on average*.
  • You can take direct flights to Spain from various airports in London, such as Heathrow Airport (LHR) and London City (LCY). Flights from London City are convenient if you are travelling for business as the airport is located close to the financial district.
  • Flights from Heathrow, on the other hand, tend to provide you with a greater choice of destination cities. If you’re planning to fly to Spain during winter, you could opt for some winter sun with a direct flight to Las Palmas Airport (LPA) in Gran Canaria, rather than flying to mainland Spain where you will find cooler temperatures over the winter months.
  • As a UK citizen, you will not require a visa to visit Spain for up to 90 days. However, you do need a passport which must be valid for at least three months after the day you leave Spain.
  • If you are renting a car at an airport in Spain, you should familiarise yourself with the car safety laws, especially if you are travelling with children. If your child is under 1.35m tall, they will require a suitable child seat to travel in a car.
  • If your London airport of choice doesn’t offer a direct flight to your destination, check other airports nearby. For example, London City Airport (LCY) doesn’t offer direct flights to Madrid Airport (MAD). However, London Heathrow Airport (LHR) does, and you can easily travel between the two airports by train, taking roughly 1h.

Pretty fair for the price of the plane ticket. Food was poorly, but overall was a ok experience for a super long flight.

Good. Madrid to SFO was way better than ARN to Madrid. Mercifully, the seats to Madrid didn't recline. So although there was no leg room, your knees didn't get crushed

Our flight was delayed by 2-hrs but I understand it was beyond the scope of the crew members

Overall was good except for the seat which, for an 8 hour intercontinental flight, was uncorfortable. For that kind of flight seats should have more space, even for economy seats.

Other than a late takeoff (not British Airways fault) and some delays with baggage, it was a terrific flight. The crew in business class was superb and the seat and accommodations clean and modern. Could not have asked for more.

Needed more info on connecting flight. Late flight made very short connection. Lost luggage that we still do not have!

Seats comfortable on economy plus and attendants very helpful. Food was ok. Bathrooms needed servicing.

Good food, prompt and timely flight, good on-board personnel

I paid for premium economy but BA oversold the seats and we ended up being downgraded. Not acceptable given how much we paid for the flight. We were also separated to 2 different areas so not only did we not get the service we paid for, we didn’t even get to sit together. I’m not happy at this treatment by BA because of corporate greed.

Thankful for 2-4-2 economy seating. Food was ok. Free beer & wine in economy was nice. Served hot dinner, mud- flight snack and pre-arrival ham sandwich. Seat with pillow & blanket. Reasonable movie options. Overall, a good experience. IBERIA APP is terrible terrible terrible.... needs to get upgraded to equivalent of TAP Airlines App. No option to bid or request an upgrade. Very disappointing.

The whole flight was coughing and farting all the way. It was impossible to breathe. If people are traveling sick they should either not be allowed to fly or made wear masks

I will never fly vueling. 1h30 delayed, connexion missed with the crew closing the boarding in front of us. 40 people missed the Barcelona-Orly connexion. hours waiting for rebooking and hotel.. inadmissible

3 hr flight from Barcelona to Gran Canaria. Ŵent according to plan No issues with staff oŕ flight. Many people includiñg us could not get luggage self checķ in termìnals to work. Had to wait in check in line.

The communication about the delay could have been better before and during the flight. Also, this online form could have less bugs. It is almost impossible to type in this window.

Boarding was very poor as the flight was initially delayed. We were told the flight would be at 21:40. We were with our 10 month baby who was sleeping. I received an email from Kayak which said the flight was now due to take off at 21:04. When we checked the screens at Gatwick we were told the gate was closed. The lack of communication was extremely poor and we had to run with our baby and there were many other passengers, including elderly people, also running to the gate. When we got to the gate, the staff had no reasons for the poor communication.

We got to the airport 2 hours before the flight. We waited in a line to check our bags onto the flight for an hour, even despite having checked in online, as there weren't enough self check terminals allocated to Vueling (yet loads of empty BA ones right next to them). There also weren't enough staff, making them stressed and rude. We had to try and rush through security to get to our gate, which they announced as gate 35 at first and then changed it after ten minutes with no announcement to anyone in the airport that it had changed. So we then had to rush to the correct gate to arrive just as boarding started. It was a thoroughly stressful process and one travelling couple almost missed boarding because of it. The flight boarding and the flight itself werre fine, the staff were polite, but I was dehydrated due to the airport and had to buy a bottle of water as they didn't offer free drinks.

It was a short flight but the seat was very straight. I didn’t need any service, but wifi was not available. In resume, a normal service. Nice, the punctuality. Thanks

Bought check in baggage but couldn’t do it at the kiosk, had to line up just to get baggage tag which was a very long queue with only 1 customer service agent handling all vueling flights. Had to wait about 45mins just to get a bag tag and drop baggage.

Last time bucking this company if I would know I wouldn’t do it, they made me lose my flight

The on board air steward really made the journey. He was very entertaining

I was disappointed there was a 40 minute delay to flight

The trip itself was good. I have given only good as rating, because my first flight has been cancelled by a different airline and that caused disruption in my trip. I spent over ten hours in Luton airport and that caused me high tiredness, sickness, because of the very early initial trip. easyJet staff has been professional and friendly.

Very pleasant crew, working hard on a full plane. Delay by a broken seat. However crew made back 60% of the delay.

Delayed and then further delayed with no announcement made so that all the passengers (who were standing in the jetty) could hear. We stood there for well over 20 minutes. We were further delayed through weather but no one explained that to us until the pilot made an announcement when finally on board

easyJet need to ensure that whether pre-booking seats or not children aren’t split from their parents the crew spent the majority of boarding asking passengers to move to accommodate two families. Surely the system identifies minors on a booking !!!!! It was all very frustrating to watch and caused delays which I’m sure cost easyJet more in the long run rather that automatically allocating families with minors seats together automatically.

Not great! Rude staff in London and the worse baggage reclaim I’ve ever seen. Great staff in flight but doubt I’ll fly with them again

Staff had been really impolite at the boarding area and for both ways charged high extra fees without a reason. For the check-in luggage which was measured 3.5 kg and was confirmed by the stuff to cost 40 € , 60 Euros had been purchased from our credit card. When confronted staff did call us both liars and claimed to never have announced anything. Flight back , when not wanting to press a backpack in a measuring metal instead of hand measuring , staff got angry that one did not follow her order, which was than escalated by the team. Although carrying a baby anyways staff did not offer any help in the unreasonable process and than charged again extra money. Cabine crew has been friendly but this experience LL lead to not booking easy jet at all in the future. Check in process in Edinburgh anyways chaotic,to the family check-in and disabled check-in everybody else was guided for check in process, so people just getting in between each other, not possible to monitor your own stuff.

As you would expect from a budget airline Left and arrived on time, no frills, not even a glass of water offered But you get what you pay for

The communication about the delay could have been better before and during the flight. Also, this online form could have less bugs. It is almost impossible to type in this window.

Very good, everything went straight forward, boarding, during the flight, landing and all on time Well done

flight delayed, no information given until late on, Ryanair app said "on time" until 5 minutes before expected departure time, crew rushed us to board, when it was already 3 hours late

I got denied boarding bevause they said they "ran out of seats on a plane"

Speakers were blaring. It's like being in a Moroccan market and you keep getting shouted at with what's for sale

What can you say Ryanair get you there,no frills Not so cheap anymore ..... but what is now days! Would use again as always. Good flight times for us.

3 hours delay, non comunicated until past the time of original boarding, no assistance, witnessed land crew shouting at a passenger

Very unpleasant staff, disgusting service, ignoring requests, refusal to help

Letting people wait outside for boarding in the rain and almost 0 degrees for a high temperature destination is very customer unfriendly

Late again rude staff at gate bullying passengers made us stand in the cold 3degrees for 40 mins before they let us board

The usual average Ryanair flight, but we landed 20 min before due time, which was very good.

The boarding to Gatwick was a breeze but the boarding from Gatwick was a nightmare. The onboard service to Gatwick had a lot to be desired but the onboard sevice from Gatwick was amazing ! Very nice, friendly and funny ! Would I recommend BA to anyone.? ! Yes I would!

Really quick check in and security at Heathrow Terminal 5. Staff on board were lovely and very friendly. Could have provided a few more drinks on the flight but they were available at the back of the plane.

Flight boarded and took off late for unknown reasons. Crew insisted we check our hand luggage due to full flight, which it was not even close to full. Then had to wait almost an hour a and a half for the hand luggage to come onto the luggage belt since it was loaded last. This came after many hours of traveling pregnant with my 6 year old daughter. Really didn’t appreciate the unnecessary delays. What the hell?

Left late. Crowded like cattle. Standing and waiting. Food on board getting worse.

Terrible- the flight time was delayed and then I was denied boarding because I arrived at the new time of departure

Flight delayed an hour due to plane maintenance issues after getting in line to board. Issue was plane galley ovens which eliminated hot meals for overseas flight. Cold selections were limited due to availability. Drink and meal service (already an hour delayed) was very slow. Upon arrival in Nashville, had to sit at gate for about 15 minutes before disembarking with no explanation. Local police then boarded plane as we were disembarking so maybe that was the issue.

Boarding good. Seats uncomfortable when lie flat. Food was awful. Tasted stale and chicken was dry. No live tv or flight map. Had to pay for internet.

Poor technical details on this plane. 1) There was no WiFi on an 8 hour long-haul flight. So no work could be done. That's below the standard expected for airlines these days. 2) The power outlet at my seat was busted and not working. 3) The headphone jack was loose and I had to keep adjusting my headphones to get good reception, or when it slipped out. - The flight was delayed to due mechanics. Sometimes this can't be avoided, I understand, and it's a big inconvenience to arrive that much later when traveling across time zones (then arriving at 4am from the prior time zone). - Also unique to this flight, the northern lights were visible on the right side of the aircraft, but I only found out after we landed (b/c again no wifi). I understand there are considerations about people being out of their seats to look, but I feel extremely disappointed and resentful that I wasn't told so that I could have a chance to look at this probably once-in-a-lifetime cosmic event from a view in the sky. - Flight crew was otherwise friendly and helpful.

Our flight was delayed by over 6 hours. We then had to deplane, stay overnight in a hotel then fly out the next day, 23 hours late.

I would have preferred something lighter for the second meal. Maybe a small sandwich .
