FAQs - booking Norway flights

  • What documents are required to enter Norway?

Though not part of the EU, Norway is part of the Schengen Area, which means as a UK citizen you won’t need to apply for an entry visa but can enter the country on a 90-day visa that is granted upon your arrival. Your passport must be valid for at least six months in order to travel to Norway from the UK.

  • What’s the best way to get from Oslo Gardermoen Airport to the city centre?

When getting to Oslo city centre from Oslo Gardermoen Airport, your best bet is to grab the Airport Express Train, which is a high-speed service and a very comfortable way to travel to the city. The train departs every 10 minutes and takes around 20-25 minutes to arrive at Oslo Central Station. A single ticket costs around 210 NOK (18 GBP) for adults, while under 16s can travel for free when accompanied by an adult.

  • Is there mobility assistance available at London Stansted Airport?

Yes, mobility assistance services are available at London Stansted Airport. Before your trip, get in touch with your airline to make the appropriate arrangements. The airline will gather all the information required from you about your assistance request and give it to the airport personnel 48 hours before your flight.

  • Which is the best airport in Norway for onward travel to Jotunheimen National Park?

The best airport to fly into if you want to travel to Jotunheimen National Park is Oslo Gardermoen Airport, which is around 152 miles away and on average a 3h 30min drive. Bergen Flesland Airport (BGO) is a similar distance away, but the road networks are a lot longer, so fly into Oslo if you want a shorter drive.

Top tips for finding a cheap flight from London to Norway

  • Morning departure is around 5% cheaper than an evening flight, on average*.
  • Use the Reserve and Collect option at London Gatwick Airport (LGW) to purchase duty-free items. Prior to your departure date, you can purchase items online and save time by picking them up at the airport.
  • If you’re looking to fly to Norway on the cheap, the best flights to book would be with Ryanair from London Stansted Airport (STN) to Oslo Sandefjord Airport (TRF) or Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL). This is a direct service that takes 1h 50min. Alternatively, Norwegian Airlines have decent rates for direct flights from London Gatwick Airport to Oslo Gardermoen Airport, Stavanger Sola Airport (SVG) and Bergen Flesland Airport (BGO).
  • Make use of the many services available to passengers at London Gatwick Airport (LGW). If you want to relax before your plane takes off, look into the lounges that you may reserve in advance online. For around £32-38, you may reserve a seat in one of six lounges, with two in the South Terminal and four in the North Terminal. While you wait in comfort for your flight to take off, you'll get access to unlimited Wi-Fi as well as free food and beverages.
  • If you want to fly exclusively from London Heathrow Airport flights are a little more expensive than from London Gatwick or London Stansted. However, you can find reasonably priced direct flights to Oslo Gardermoen Airport with British Airways and Bergen Flesland Airport with Wideroe Airlines.
  • If you want to travel cheaply from central London to London Stansted Airport (STN), be sure to reserve a seat on the Stansted Express Train from Liverpool Street Station online. Tickets start at around £9.70 up to six months in advance, but on the day of travel, they can cost nearly £20.

3 Flights were late, 1 on time. When you have connections you have to run thru the airport because there is not much time. When asked the flight attendant if they could let us out first because we were 30 minutes late she said it's a small airport, don't worry. That seemed to be the standard line. Other airlines are much more helpful. Our special meals were on our flight going from Boston to Copenhagen, They did not have them for the return even though we had put in for it.

SAS is the representation of the Scandinavian minimalism, which I like. I wished they had a more relaxed policy on free water distribution beyond one bottle (500 ml) per person and two drinks, including water, per overseas flight.

Much better, not their fault but my plane was so delayed causing me to have to take this airline rather than my earlier connecting flight

TERRIBLE! Staff was unfriendly, rude, and demeaning. One flight attendant touched me to grab the complimentary blanket off my neck because I couldn't take it home, while a bunch of other people took theirs home. I have never been so ill treated. I am not happy at all. And flight was delayed, no information until short notice for everything. Lost an entire day at my destination. I expect a full refund for that experience. Never will fly with them EVER again

All was good. I think the back of the plane should be boarded first. It would be faster. Minimal waiting time behind passengers loading their carry on baggage.

My return flight has been changed to JFK from EWR without any notice or reason

This was my first time flying SAS and used them for 4 flights. The crews, flight and communication was outstanding. I flew premium economy and was extremely impressed by their SAS lounges. I will 100% ise SAS again. Everyone was so pleasant!

They lost my luggage. Tromso in winter without warm clothes is not fun.

The flight was on time and loading was fine. I really disliked that all drinks other than coffee or tea had a cost. Deplaning was also an issue as people did not wait for those in front of them to get out before they pushed forward

I couldn’t make it to the airport for my original flight due to bad weather; roads were shut down, buses and trains were closed. Since the plane wasn’t cancelled, I still had to pay $720 to change my ticket.

As on the tin a fair price for a fair flight ✈️👌✈️

Very good, everything went straight forward, boarding, during the flight, landing and all on time Well done

flight delayed, no information given until late on, Ryanair app said "on time" until 5 minutes before expected departure time, crew rushed us to board, when it was already 3 hours late

I got denied boarding bevause they said they "ran out of seats on a plane"

Speakers were blaring. It's like being in a Moroccan market and you keep getting shouted at with what's for sale

What can you say Ryanair get you there,no frills Not so cheap anymore ..... but what is now days! Would use again as always. Good flight times for us.

Θα ήταν καλύτερα να προσφέρουν ένα μπουκάλι νερό δωρεάν και καφέ .

Very unpleasant staff, disgusting service, ignoring requests, refusal to help

Late again rude staff at gate bullying passengers made us stand in the cold 3degrees for 40 mins before they let us board

The usual average Ryanair flight, but we landed 20 min before due time, which was very good.

The boarding to Gatwick was a breeze but the boarding from Gatwick was a nightmare. The onboard service to Gatwick had a lot to be desired but the onboard sevice from Gatwick was amazing ! Very nice, friendly and funny ! Would I recommend BA to anyone.? ! Yes I would!

Really quick check in and security at Heathrow Terminal 5. Staff on board were lovely and very friendly. Could have provided a few more drinks on the flight but they were available at the back of the plane.

Flight boarded and took off late for unknown reasons. Crew insisted we check our hand luggage due to full flight, which it was not even close to full. Then had to wait almost an hour a and a half for the hand luggage to come onto the luggage belt since it was loaded last. This came after many hours of traveling pregnant with my 6 year old daughter. Really didn’t appreciate the unnecessary delays. What the hell?

Left late. Crowded like cattle. Standing and waiting. Food on board getting worse.

Terrible- the flight time was delayed and then I was denied boarding because I arrived at the new time of departure

Flight delayed an hour due to plane maintenance issues after getting in line to board. Issue was plane galley ovens which eliminated hot meals for overseas flight. Cold selections were limited due to availability. Drink and meal service (already an hour delayed) was very slow. Upon arrival in Nashville, had to sit at gate for about 15 minutes before disembarking with no explanation. Local police then boarded plane as we were disembarking so maybe that was the issue.

Boarding good. Seats uncomfortable when lie flat. Food was awful. Tasted stale and chicken was dry. No live tv or flight map. Had to pay for internet.

Poor technical details on this plane. 1) There was no WiFi on an 8 hour long-haul flight. So no work could be done. That's below the standard expected for airlines these days. 2) The power outlet at my seat was busted and not working. 3) The headphone jack was loose and I had to keep adjusting my headphones to get good reception, or when it slipped out. - The flight was delayed to due mechanics. Sometimes this can't be avoided, I understand, and it's a big inconvenience to arrive that much later when traveling across time zones (then arriving at 4am from the prior time zone). - Also unique to this flight, the northern lights were visible on the right side of the aircraft, but I only found out after we landed (b/c again no wifi). I understand there are considerations about people being out of their seats to look, but I feel extremely disappointed and resentful that I wasn't told so that I could have a chance to look at this probably once-in-a-lifetime cosmic event from a view in the sky. - Flight crew was otherwise friendly and helpful.

Our flight was delayed by over 6 hours. We then had to deplane, stay overnight in a hotel then fly out the next day, 23 hours late.

I would have preferred something lighter for the second meal. Maybe a small sandwich .

Overall flight was fantastic.i really enjoy the whole journey .

Little more legroom would have been nice. But it's a very short flight, so it was fine really.

Short flight, some waiting to board, but no issues and no frills.

No staff at the gate and the flights were not posted on the board so we missed our flight. Horrible experience. Be VERY careful flying Norwegian. Super limited ability to communicate with their slim staffing and restricted hours.

Pros: "Nothing, except I got to my destination safely"
Cons: "Everything. They don’t ever offer you WATER in a 10 hour flight!! Check in crew rude. Attends dismissive to rude."
Cons: "Norwegian was unwilling to refund flight to and from Rome in the height of the Coronavirus pandemic."
Pros: "Nothing"
Cons: "If I was allowed onto my flight. My previous flight on AirEuropa was overbooked, I didn’t get a seat, and they put me on the next flight out. With the delay I didn’t get to the check in window till approximately 55 minutes before departure. Norwegian wouldn’t even let me check in. They said boarding had already stopped and the flight was closed. Sent me to the sales rep where I was told my only option was to switch to the same flight the following day, but that would cost me an additional 630€. I ended up stuck in Barcelona overnight and found a cheaper flight home with British Airways/American Airlines."
Pros: "On a long haul flight, when I bought my ticket, Kayak advertised entertainment on my long haul flights. There was none on this flight! Seata were extremely uncomfortable."
Cons: "Stop misleading passengers to make money"
Pros: "nothing particularly good—-getting off the plane was a va relief"
Cons: "due to my seating, i was freezing...i had to buy my own blanket for 5 euros and this was no be more than a sheet!"

We bought tickets for £30 from kayak but we paid £55 for check in to rayan , they slaught us

Flight was delayed so long we missed our second flight. Entire trip had to be cancelled. Ryanair refused to help us.

Stanton airport is outdated, pure equiped, airport. Fire alarms, power outages is a common routine, wich result ir flights delay , additional money spending and huge gathering of people in airport wich is unsafe.

After you made us check-in I tried to add a suitcase in the internet and also to get help by chet. Nothing work and we pay 60 pounds at Airport. Comper to Easyjet to do the same, was easy and customer friendly.

Boarding was like being hoarded like cattle, all penned in in an area way to small

I missed the flight from Manchester to Dublin because of poor informations from Aer Lingus and the airport, no possibility to check in online, they don't respond to phone calls, I had to buy another tickets to enable me travel to Dublin from Manchester. I want my money to refund.

Rude check in staff. Split family up with young children.

I were there 20min before departure and they didn’t let me on the board with 5 other people, after all they admitted it was their(Ryanair) fault.
