The pick up method in Florence is horrible, I also asked the drop off to be in Rome and I didn’t notice they put Genoa so I had to pay an extra $100 in fee for when I dropped it off to the location I had originally asked for.

They did not have the SUV I reserved, and insisted I take a pick up truck or a mid-sized sedan! THey took no responsiblity for this error... Also, the deposit for self CDW insurance (over US20K in deposit) was just too unreasonable. Staff not friendly.

These guys are the worst. Watch out for all kinds of hidden charges and if anyone tells you anything about your rental, make sure you get it in writing. These guys are supreme scam artists. Don’t get suckered like I did.

I was told I HAVE to get the premium insurance otherwise my deposit would be $26,000!!The receptionist kept on showing us in Spanish, I asked to have it shown in English, she did. And I was able to select no insurance, but it needed managers passcode. So I clicked back, and selected the lowest coverage and it was allowing me to choose how much deposit, $5000! At the return, they charged me $0.01 to release my deposit, which still has not been release. The car itself was comfortable, the people on the other hand, I feel they are shady.

Although I have payed the insurance in advance through the website, they asked me to pay it again. I was told that the insurance I paid for on the website was for American citizens only.

Avis tried adding a $500 one-way drop off fee that was not in the original estimate. It took several attempts to get it resolved. Had to talk to several agents and phone calls to help center. Truly a bait and switch on Avis’s part with lots off “we’re not able to take the charge off” and “we can’t override the system” conversations.

Vehicle provided was not the vehicle reserved. We reserved a Ford Transit but what we got was a Kia Carnival which although was “similar” it did not provide the same amount of baggage space. 6 adults with 6 full size bags we were packed in like sardines. Interior was stained, brakes need attention

Pros:

Great car except for seat belt problem and fact that Hertz forgot to install car seat that we requested in writing and verbally

Cons:

So we had to return to pick-up location for car seat. Then when we removed car seat to adjust straps for our four year old we could not get he seat belt to ratchet and lock properly to secure car seat, so we had to return to pick-up location a second time(!) for a service person to help with their tricks for getting this seatbelt to work! Basically it cost us two full hours before leaving on a busy holiday weekend.

Pros:

The pickup/dropoff went well, especially the help when we returned the car. Car was very comfortable, clean, drove well, and we had no problems.

Cons:

When we picked up the car, I asked for a map - especially of how to get to the motorway in Sydney. Was told they didn't have any maps. We used our cell gps, but when you go through tunnels service gets dropped (duh) making it a bit stressful about what turn might be next. I was surprised (frustrated) that even a city map was not available in paper form (come on, Hertz!). Next problem was discovered when we got home and I was paying my credit card bills. When my reservation was made, Hertz charged my credit card one day rental costs. But the system never reflected this when renting or returning the car, so I was charged the full amount when dropped off. This is NOT the fault of the return agent, but the Hertz system. I have since sent an email to Hertz and 2 days later still no reply. If this gets resolved, then my rating might go up - but if it takes more work on my part to get resolved, then rating may actually go down. Also, I thought the charge to drop off at a different city was a bit steep - especially since it seemed like more than twice the actual rental cost.

absolutely terrible. I don't know whether they have actual humans working for them tbh because you can spend over 30 minutes on the phone, trying all 3 phone numbers they provide you with with your reservation , and no one will answer the phone. Instead, you will get sent insane when the same 4 options come back for you to choose from when you select any option and no one answers the phone. Try emailing? You will receive an automated response in German! Don't bother wasting your time and being driven to brink of utter frustration and go with another company

We paid additional for an suv which was not available. Instead they gave us an old small sedan with dings and scratches all over it. Would have gone with the cheaper rate had I known I would be getting such a poor vehicle.

We paid for an SUV, and when we got to pick-up there were none left. We were given a golden Astra saloon car, which is not what I wanted and not what I paid for. The service assistant told me that as we had already paid, there was nothing he can do - which is unreasonable. He then said we could bring the car back half full, as compensation - when we dropped the car off there was no record of this and we were told we would be charged for the lack of fuel. I am unsatisfied with the whole experience of your company.

Did not get the vehicle I ordered and had to put up with my husband complaining the whole trip about the car. What I paid was more than the hatch that I received but no refund. Quite a bit of damage on the vehicle.

I arrived, and they had the wrong car. They had an SUV-type 7-seater, but I booked a people carrier van. They didn't have any available, so I had to wait 90 minutes with 3 children for the car to be ready. They claimed the issue with the booking was with Kayak/Expedia, and they made me pay the difference in upgrading the car. I showed them the booking confirmation and the picture of the van/people carrier with 9 seats, but they still made me pay. I was so tired and knew I needed the van that I had to pay to get out of the place. The manager was helpful, and the people were lovely. But I find all car rental places to be borderline crooks. This just confirmed it again for me. There are ridiculous add-ons for mileage, car seats for kids (a legal requirement), insurance, and excess. The list goes on.

Predatory practices around car damage, and didn't accept the 3rd party insurance coverage that I had purchased. At the point of pickup I then needed to provide additional coverage through my credit card. Poor communication and customer service throughout.
