Situated on the southeast coast, Laganas is very much the party capital of Zante. It is, in short, the largest and liveliest place on the island, largely catering to the 18-30 party crowd. The actual resort is quite pretty in places, especially in those areas where fruit orchards and olive trees are still present. It is also quite spread out; however, it is fair to say most visitors head straight to the aptly named 'Golden Mile', with its extensive collection of pubs, bars and clubs, or to Laganas' long sandy beach.
While Zante basks in similar temperatures to other Mediterranean islands during the hot summer months, it has the advantage of being tempered by the cooling Meltemia breezes (which makes a difference when the mercury rises toward the high 30s in July and August). Getting to Laganas is pretty straightforward, as flights to Zante take around 3½ hours from the UK and airport transfers take just half an hour. British visitors need to remember that Laganas is two time zones ahead of the UK (GMT+2).
As mentioned before, holidays to Laganas are all about partying, and in particular, clubbing. While karaoke and pub quizzes might be enough to keep some visitors happy, most will make a beeline for venues where trance, hip-hop and R'n'B keep the dance floors buzzing until the early hours. Lagunas is lively, its clubs veritably thumping with bass, and as a party destination, it's about as good as it gets. When visitors need a break from the nightlife, holidaymakers can always head over to the relaxing surroundings of Zante's town or visit one of the nearby mountainside villages for some respite.
