Montana is a northwestern U.S. state in the Rocky Mountains on the Canadian border. The landscapes of Montana are diverse with towering mountain peaks in the west and flatter regions in the east. The state includes smaller cities such as Billings and Helena.
Transport for Montana holidays
Visitors can land at airports in Billings, Helena, Great Falls and Missoula for their Montana holidays. Or you can reach Montana from other states via the Empire Builder line. The train has 12 stops in northern Montana and connects the state with North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Remember that Montana is seven hours behind GMT. Montana's climate is generally colder than other U.S. states further south, and has plenty of snowfall during the winter. As such, some might say that Montana is a more suitable destination for a winter vacation than a summer one.
Montana national parks and ski resorts
There are a couple of huge national parks for visitors to visit during their Montana holidays. The Yellowstone National Park in southern Montana is 3,472 square miles, and includes hundreds of waterfalls, geysers and hiking trails. In northern Montana there is the smaller Glacier National Park which also has some stunning scenery such as the Iceberg Lake Trail. Those searching for snow on their Montana holidays should check out the Big Sky Resort which is the largest ski resort in the United States. An alternative is the Whitefish Mountain Resort four miles from the town of Whitefish west of Glacier National Park.
Montana cities
Montana also has a few interesting cities such as Helena. In Helena visitors should check out the Great Northern Carousel and Ice Cream Parlour and Reeder's Alley historic mining district during their Montana holidays. Near Billings there is Pompey's Pillar, a Little Bighorn Battlefield monument that towers above the Yellowstone River. The city also includes museums such as Yellowstone County Museum.
