The Costa Daurada, or 'The Golden Coast', makes up 240 km of Catalonia's breathtaking coastline. With varying landscapes of clear blue sea and rugged mountain ranges, the Costa Daurada region is the perfect place to relax, explore and take in the full splendor of the Mediterranean.
When to take your Costa Daurada holidays
Thanks to it's mild climate, the Costa Daurada has warm to hot summers and mild winters and this makes it a popular holiday destination all year round, with May to October being the warmest period. The easiest way to begin your Costa Daurada holidays is by flying in to Barcelona International airport. From there you can begin your journey to the coast or take a short 20-minute train ride to the centre of Barcelona. The time zone is GMT+1.
What to do on your Costa Daurada holidays
If you have never been to Barcelona, it is a fantastic place to start your Costa Daurada holidays. Here you can marvel at Gaudi's architectural masterpieces scattered throughout the city, such as La Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera and his former home Park Güell which is now a historic landmark. Just half an hour south of the city is the beautiful Sitges, a lively seaside town full of typically quaint, narrow streets and fabulous sandy beaches. There are a wide range of excellent bars and restaurants where you can try freshly prepared seafood, tapas and sangria.
Heading inland you cannot miss the spectacular Montserrat, a uniquely shaped mountain range, national park and home of the Benedictine Abbey which sits at its peak. Wine lovers are spoilt for choice on the Costa Daurada, with an outstanding variety of vineyard scenery and local wineries to explore. Penedes and Tarragona are highly recommended regions for red wine lovers, while those who enjoy crisp sparkling whites should head to the cellars of Do Cava.
