Originally conceived as a stop-gap for gold miners and construction workers, Laughlin has grown rapidly over the past several decades and now boasts 9 resort-casinos, plenty of entertainment, and extensive outdoor recreation opportunities along the Colorado River. Located on the southernmost tip of Nevada, Laughlin holidays act as a more laid-back and family friendly alternative to Las Vegas.
Though Laughlin does have its own airport, flights to the area are infrequent and most people find it more convenient to fly into Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport before making the straightforward 1.5 hour journey south by car, though bus travel is also an option. Alternatively, holiday-makers can reach Laughlin by car from Los Angeles (5.5 hours), San Diego (6 hours), or Flagstaff (3 hours). Laughlin's desert climate means summers are often amongst the hottest in the United States, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees common during July and August. During the rest of the year, temperatures range from 20 to 30°C and are ideal for outdoor pursuits. Whilst it is recommended to travel by car to reach Laughlin, visitors can walk or use taxis to get around. Laughlin is in the Pacific Time Zone (GMT-8).
Laughlin features many of the attractions and comforts you would expect to find in any other Nevada destination. Indeed, in the casinos alone you will find plenty of fun, with many offering multiple restaurants, bars, shops, and entertainment - check the listings during your visit to see what's going on.
Meanwhile, visitors can participate in a variety of water activities on the nearby Colorado River, with kayaks, jet skis, and charter boats all available to hire. Those wanting a taste of being on the water should try the River Passage Water Taxi, a fun and inexpensive way to travel between casinos.
