To take the most striking photos, it is recommended to visit early morning or late afternoon, when the sun creates strong contrasts against the rocks. The site is a four hour ride from Amman, or two hours from neighboring Eliat in Israel. Both buses and taxis are available, with buses being the cheaper, yet longer option.</p>

All-inclusive tours can be made for Petra holidays in advance or at the last minute. Either on a tour, or visiting on your own, you will enter through the Siq, which is a narrow gorge lasting 1km. The Siq opens onto a view of the Treasury; a royal tomb carved over 40m high into the face of the rock. This is the most popular attraction and is therefore one of the busiest points. The Treasury is one of the grandest sights, after which you will pass more tombs set amongst the stone before coming across a huge Roman-style theatre.</p>

As there is also a monastary and two museums at the site, Petra holidays could easily last several days. Staying at one of the many hotels adjacent to the site is the most convenient option.
