Located in the East Midlands area of the United Kingdom, Nottingham is famed for its ties with Robin Hood, its historic lace-making industries, and its retail opportunities. And with world class art galleries, beautiful green spaces and a thriving nightlife, it's no wonder Nottingham holidays are becoming increasingly popular as a prime UK destination.

Nottingham Holidays: Getting Around

Nottingham is serviced by East Midlands Airport. It is easy to get from the airport to the city in around half an hour via shuttle bus, bus service, or taxi. Nottingham's transport system is well connected, with regular buses and trams to take visitors around the city's main sights. However, the city centre itself is easy to navigate on foot. Nottingham has quite a mild climate, but visiting in the spring or summer is best to enjoy its parks. The time zone is GMT.

Nottingham holidays: Where to Start

Start in Nottingham by taking a walk around its historic centre. You'll see the iconic Council House, the seat of the local government, which rises above the Old Market Square. The large dome of the building is a symbol of Nottingham, and its hourly bell can be heard for miles around. Head to Nottingham Contemporary, a recently opened art gallery in the Hockley area, to see world class exhibitions by contemporary artists at one of the country's most exciting new art spaces. The distinctive patterns of the architecture reflect the local area's involvement in the lace-making industry. Hockley is a great place to relax, with numerous independent cafés, bars, and Nottingham's independent cinema, Broadway. Unfortunately little of Nottingham Castle survives, but its interesting remains and a mansion house and art gallery can be visited on the stunning Castle Rock hill. For a day out of the city, take the bus to Newstead Abbey, once home of Lord Byron, or Wollaton Park, with the intricate Wollaton Hall towering over acres of deer park.
