Four miles south of Myrtle Beach visitors should check out Surfside Beach which offers several parks and is ideal for boating and fishing The 5,000 acre Hunting Island, east of Beaufort, also has a pristine sandy beach set alongside its nature park and a public lighthouse which provides some great views of the Atlantic.

Historic cities in South Carolina

Charleston, a former Civil War battleground, is one of the historic cites in South Carolina and the town museum and the ruins of Fort Sumter are popular attractions on South Carolina holidays. The Kiawah Island golf resort, which incoporates five renowned coastal golf courses, can also be visited. In Columbia the Fort Jackson military museum is one of the big draws. Visitors can also visit the Columbia Museum of Art which houses 25 galleries of fine and decorative art.
