Phoenix Holidays: Getting Around
Phoenix is serviced by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. It is easy to get from the airport to the downtown area via shuttle bus, public bus or taxi. Alternatively, visitors may wish to hire a car whilst in Arizona, as this is the easiest way to get around the city and its surrounding area. Situated in the desert, the city can get very hot in the summer, so better to visit in spring when the climate is a little more comfortable. The time zone is GMT-7.
Phoenix Holidays: Where to start?
The downtown area of Phoenix has an impressive mix of old and new architecture, including the Spanish Baroque style Orpheum Theatre, built in 1929. There's fun for all the family at Arizona Science Center, hosting a regularly changing array of fascinating exhibitions about the world around us. At the USS Arizona Memorial at the Arizona State Capitol, visitors can pay their respects to the victims of Pearl Harbour, a historic memorial to one of the most important events in American history.
Camelback Mountain is one of Phoenix's famous landmarks. The red rock mountain is shaped like a camel's silhouette. Climbing to its summit is not recommended, or at least only to experienced hikers. To explore more of Phoenix's stunning landscape, take a day trip to Phoenix Mountains Park. It's an arduous trek to Piestewa Peak, but well worth it for the panoramic views of the city and surroundings. The trail is quite steep and rocky, so remember to wear the correct footwear and drink lots of water along the way. There are many picnic spots to take a break and soak up the breathtaking views.
