The roads in Lausanne and the rest of the country are generally in excellent condition and are well adapted to all types of vehicles; the one you choose will depend on your needs. If you're driving around in summer, consider convertible car hire in Lausanne, to make the most of the scenery. If you're planning on sticking to the city and not exploring the surrounding areas, a small model will suit you. For longer trips, SUVs are always a little more comfortable.
Speed limits in Lausanne follow the national rules of the road and must be followed at all times. If you're in the residential areas, stick to the limit of 30 km/h, while the main roads in the city have a speed limit of 60 km/h. When you're driving outside of the city on rural roads, you'll be limited to 80 km/h. Major expressways have a speed limit between 100 km/h and 120 km/h depending on signage, but most people driving in Switzerland will go slower than suggested, to take in the landscape and scenery.
Some of the cheaper places to find parking lie on the outskirts of Lausanne, while car parks in the city centre are generally less affordable. On the outskirts, you'll find Park & Ride places, where you can leave your car and use public transport to get around. La Ripponne or Navigation in Ouchy are car park options in the city centre. It’s also suggested you make sure your hotel or accommodation has adequate parking available.

Pros:
fast, friendly service. good price.Cons:
A "leave the key and go" drop-off service, instead of queueing also with customers that were picking up the car.9.6 Wonderful

Oct 2016
Pros:
Nice price for what you get and easy going of reservation etc.Cons:
Too small remarks: Reserved the car Saturday evening for pick up at Rue du Simplon. Went there but nobody was there yet and in the emd had to go to Place du Tunnel to get the car. Overloaded parking lot for drop off, leaves you feel a little bit uneasy to park the car there.9.6 Wonderful

Cons:
no clear directions for where to go to drop off keys6.8 Okay
Aug 2016
Cons:
the surprise 50chf for mandatory insurance upon arrival was not appreciated. Your competitors list this up front and although your method got us to rent from you this time, this experience has left us with no desire to use Hertz in the future. Transparency is a virtue which is respected on the consumer side but obviously used for financial gains on yours10.0 Wonderful

Jan 2016
Pros:
Ease of booking. Great carCons:
We were unable to get a satisfactory answer at the time of car pick up as to whether the rental included third party insurance. We declined fire, theft insurance because our Visa card supplied that. When we asked about third party we were told everybody's private insurance covers that and we did not need it. When we looked on our receipt it stated that we were offered third party insurance and declined it (we did not). When we looked on the insurance form in the glove compartment it says third party insurance is covered. On the Sixt website, it says that third party insurance is included. On car rental sites in Switzerland it says that third party insurance is mandatory. I'm glad we weren't in an accident and had to find out whether we were covered or not.9.6 Wonderful

Some Lausanne car providers already include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection Waiver into the hire price but not all of them. We recommend being aware of your coverage when hiring a car in Lausanne.
Keep in mind that car hire insurances often have a deductible clause, which is the amount you’ll have to pay if something happens during the time of your hire. If you want to avoid unwanted surprises, you should consider adding a non-deductible option to your Lausanne car hire.
